Welcome to the web-site of historic St. John's Episcopal Church in beautiful Ouray Colorado. Our traditionally designed sanctuary has been in continuous use since being constructed of native stone in 1880 by Welsh and Cornish miners who worked in the nearby mines. Over the years the building has been lovingly cared for by subsequent generations of Episcopalians and hallowed by the heartfelt prayers of both parishioners and visitors alike. If you are thinking of visiting our unique part of God's creation, we hope that you will join us for our worship service either on Sunday morning or our healing service at noon on Friday.

St. John's is a part of The Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, The Episcopal Church in the United States, and The Worldwide Anglican Communion. Our Sunday worship is a blend of both traditional and new music, using both the historic pump organ and a more modern keyboard. Holy Eucharist is generally Rite II, but on special occasions such as on the Sunday closest to the 4th of July, we use a service from that period in the Church's history. In addition to the Priest in Charge, we are blessed to have the occasional services of three Priest Associates: The Rev. Frank Durkee, The Rev. Denis Ford, and The Rev. Don Henderson. However the real ministers of this congregation are the active and generous lay people who worship here. We have a steady and energetic congregation of full time residents and are blessed to have an equally committed contingent of second homeowners who join us when they are in town.

We strive to be an inclusive congregation that practices the ministry of hospitality, welcoming people with a variety of theological perspectives, believing that God welcomes us all to the Banquet Table which has been prepared for us through Jesus Christ. We hope to see you soon.

The church office is staffed Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 9 to 12 unless the Priest in Charge is out of town. There is an answering machine on the church phone if you would like to leave a message, in which case someone will get back to you as soon as possible. If you would like to arrange for a wedding either in St. John’s or using the services of the Priest in Charge, please see the link for Building Use Policies. If this meets with your approval, Mother Jo Ann will be happy to talk to you about making arrangements.

I hope that you are having a blessed day, and if you are traveling our way, I wish you God speed on your journey. I look forward to meeting you.

Faithfully Yours In Christ,

The Rev. Jo Ann T. Ford
